Resume – Colin Curran

To make my resume better for specific industries, I used prompts to ask ChatGPT to revise my original resume (The first pdf) into tailored versions for both finance and marketing. These prompts included “cater this resume to target the marketing industry” and “tailor this resume to adhere to a finance job”. I also ask for help in reducing unnecessary content and reorganizing sections to emphasize certain achievements. When comparing my original resume to the tailored ones some of the biggest changes I saw were with structure, length, and industry specific focus. In my original resume I had a lot of broad information, while the tailored ones were more concise and highlighted skills relevant to each field. During this process I learned how important prompt engineering is when using AI for career materials. I also learned that resumes are more effective when they are tailored to a certain industry and giving detailed and concise instructions to AI can really help to improve them.
